Finally touched down at the city of 'Kuching' yesterday afternoon. Before I came here, heard that Kuching was raining and flooding at some area.
It was raining outside. It took around 25 minutes from Kuching International Airport to Kuching City (RM22). Will be staying at 5 star hotels - Riverside Majestic. Looking forward how would 5 star hotels look like.
My colleague stayed at room '1408' which is my birthday meanwhile I stayed at room '1306'. Should have inquired double bed instead of twin bed room. then I'll be staying at '1408'. Once reached the room, opened laptop as usual, started to arrange for tonight activity. Still encounter some problem with the E1. Really no time to enjoy the 5 star hotel facility. Not much surprise actually.
Called vendor up and planned to have dinner together at 'Top Spot'. End up eating KFC with my colleague cause it was raining and I'm not sure where 'Top Spot' was located. Later found that it was just a stone throw away. It was very famous among local and tourist in Kuching because of the cheap sea food.
Reached the site at around 9:50pm. No one was there. Luckily the guard let us in when we told him that we're from the Central. Wah, there was ping pong table. Played ping pong with my colleague while waiting for the others to arrive.
I was so surprise when I saw Jibun. I just talked to him via phone most of the time and never knew how he looks like. He was the uncle I met during the first team building. We have some chat.
When the vendor came, we started to prepare and wait for the instruction from Central to start the migration. We encounter some problem due to some wrong info given. We changed it last minutes and everything started to move smoothly.
We worked until early morning 6am and everything went smoothly as planned. We decided to celebrate our success and have breakfast together. Raining heavily outside. So excited with the success, I suggested to play ping pong. Only Jibun and me was excited to play. Others was too tired and the vendor left before us.
After the ping pong, we went for breakfast. Initially wanted to try out the 'Sarawak Laksa' introduce by Jibun but we're too early and the shop was not opened yet. End up we went to another shop and I try the 'Mee Java' because it's famous at that shop and my colleague ordered 'Sarawak Laksa'.
I was so exhausted when I reached the hotel. After taking a warm bath, I can't think anymore and just throw myself into the bed hoping to build some sweet dream...
This is a day trip without any planning and was decided on Friday night.
Our first destination was Tan's nyonya food recommended by Melacca boy - SK. Although I have been to Melacca many times, this is the first time I visit this place. If you're not a local or know this place, it'll be hard to find. There's a narrow wooden staircase which lead to the shop located at 1st floor.
I'll never missed the Nyonya Laksa meanwhile for others who can't take spicy food had ordered Pongteh Chicken Rice. Last but not least - the famous cendol with sago.
Laksa Nyonya ~ RM 3.20
Pongteh Chicken Rice ~ RM 5.50
Cendol with Sago ~ RM 2.50
The strong smell of the coconut milk with Gula Melacca blend well and give a very nice taste to the cendol.
After the breakfast, we loaf around Melacca which has listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage. Melacca River is cleaner than before with the newly build windmill to add some color to Melacca River.
In the center of the city located famous Dutch Square or known as Red Square because of the crimson coloured old buildings around that area such as Stadthuys and Christ Church Melaka.
See, they're trying to steal the cannon.
There's are alot of museum around that area. Museum of Architecture is one of the museum which has free entrace. Sam fully utilize it and have a nap there. Haha....
After long walk, lunch time again. Famous 'Hai Nan Chicken Rice Ball' was our savour. I think Malaysia is the first who thought of turning the normal chicken rice into rice ball. I have visited this shop during my last visit to Melacca - 'Hoe Kee Chicken Rice' which located at Jonker Walk. Other specialty are the asam fish head, black bean soup and lotus root soup.
KS mistaken the chicken rice ball as the fish ball. Haha...
Chicken with internal organ and cucumber. If you don't like internal organ, do mention it when you place ordered. Ended up in RM 51.00 with 5 coconut (RM4.00 per each).
It's time to move again. 'Jonker Walk' was our next detination. I'll never forgot my mum order which is the nyonya pineapple tart recommended by my uncle last time.
Found this famous nyonya pineapple tarts shop - LW Pineapple Tarts House with a giant pineapple tart display in front the shop. The giant tart was recorded as the largest pineapple tart in Malaysia. It was so famous that even DiGi 'Yellow Man' visited this place before.
Sam half of Melacca boy highly recommended us to eat the famous mollusks dishes with special sos at the street alley. The small little table and chair is almost extinct in Malaysia. That was the first time I saw this kind of arrangement.
Mussel or 'Si Ham' was Sam's favourite. Initially I wanted to try it out but once saw the bloody 'Si Ham', I stopped my intention. We have ordered a plate of fried bean curd and 2 plate of 'Si Ham' and it cost us RM22 in total. It was pretty expensive.
After having tea time, we found "Newton Cultura Food Village". I ordered something light - Chao Zou style 'Lei Cha' instead of Hakka style. The food are pretty cheap.
Chao Zhou Style 'Lei Cha' ~ RM 4.00
Our journey ended at the river bank opposite "The Eye of Malaysia". HK has acrophobia thus we just enjoy it from far. According to my cousin RM10 for 5 round with MyKad or else it's RM20.
After that terrible movie, we went for count down. TT and I went to Jusco to buy some beer meanwhile Sam, KS and SK went to look for strategic place to view the fireworks.
Wah, beer in Malaysia are pretty expensive. One can of Carlsberg cost around RM6 meanwhile Heineken cost around RM8. I don't really like beer so skip it. Of course, count down need some sparkling so I bought a bottle of carbonated juice instead of beer :)
While waiting for the count down, those guys started to drink the beer. I was having evil plan to spray the carbonated juice on Sam for his 'good' recommendation for 'The Spirit'.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1... HaPpY New YeAR!!! Fireworks started to broke the dark night with bright and colourful sparks. The fireworks lasted for about 5 minutes.
In the end we just drank up the sparkling instead of wasting it on Sam.
New Year coming around, don't really felt like spending it at home like last year. Sam planned to have dinner, movie, view firework and finally have some drink at pub. As usual it will took place at Sunway Pyramid.
Sam insisted and highly recommend to watch 'The Spirit''. Although don't really wish to watch that movie on New Year which claim to be horror movie by Sam. TT has the same thought not to watch that movie. Due to majority preference (actually only Sam), we just reserve ticket for 'The Spirit'. I didn't read on the synopsis or watched the trailer.
After dinner at 'Station Kopitiam', we went for the movie. Not putting any high hope and was aspecting to be some horror movie such as those lady ghost with long hair. Unexpectedly, when the movie just started, I saw the actor in black running on the roof top with red tie(just like comic), I almost fainted.
That was the hardest time for me to pass in the cinema. The most unbearable was in the mid of the movie, suddenly all the light in the cinema lighted up and left the white screen in front of us.
All the audience was so puzzled and wondering around. They started to talk and laugh how silly the movie was. Some even thought of viewing other movie at other cinema. What a good suggestion.
After 5 minutes, the movie restarted. Really no mood to continue the movie, just wish that it finished as soon as possible. My 2008 year end was ruined by this movie. The worst movie I have had in the cinema. I would declared that as the worst movie for 2008. No spirit at all after the movie though named as 'The Spirit'.
If you're looking for some non logic and silly movie, you can view 'The Spirit' :(
